The DEAD at Red Rocks!

Cheers from a Boulder coffee shop!

okay, not totally The Dead. Phil Lesh and Friends, close enough. Call me crazy, but halfway through the second set, i looked up into the sky during the transistion from China Cat Sunflower>I know you Rider. Right before Phil peacefully exclaimed, "Lord I wish I was a headlight, on a northbound train", I looked up and had a vision of old Jerry smiling down from Heaven at the grooving crowd, nodding his head, and saying, "Right on". (no, i was not under the influence, the vision came from pure joy)

Phil Lesh and Friends was not a planned event. Actually, when I arrived at the Denver airport at 6:30 p.m. last night, I did not know who would pick me up from there or where I would go. An hour later, I'm watching an acoustic set with Phil Lesh on stand up bass!

For years now, I have tried to make the pilgrimage to the infamous Red Rocks venue, but have been unable to. We parked up made it up the hill just in time to here the echoes of "Midnight Rider" coming from the Rocks. Right when I walked in they started up with, "Don't Let your Deal go down" Awwwoooo!

If there ever was a CLASSIC CLASSIC dead set, last night was it. Second set they came out for an all acoustic bluegrass jam!

9/29/07 Red Rocks (Morrison, CO)

Bertha, Big River, Midnight Rider, Candyman, Cold Black Devil, Deal

(Acoustic) Friend of the Devil, Sweet Somewhere Bound, Deep Elem Blues, Brokedown Palace, Tell Me Mama, Ripple

A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall, Cryptical Envelopment > The Other One > Dark Star > Mountains of the Moon > Dark Star > China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider /Not Fade Away

It was a nearly a full moon last night and the Denver city lights shined shined shined behind the stage. My friend Sandy tapped me and pointed up to the Red Rocks at one point. Some gentlemen had climbed up to the very top (barefoot) to get a better seat in the house. I was like, "That is sweet!" and the security gaurd said, "Yea man, thats the first time all season that I have seen em' up there. Its a hell of a climb, and a 1000 dollar fine. I sure wouldn't climb up there, and especially not with a drink in my hand". haha.

In the transistion from Reno to Callahan to Boulder, I seemed to have misplaced my camera cord, thus, I will not have the Phil Lesh and Friends photos up until it is found.

"Come let us sing for joy to the Lord. Let us shout aloud to the ROCK of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great king above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth and the mountain peaks belong to him, and the sea is his, for he made it, and his hands form the dry land. Today if you here his voice, do not harden your hearts." - Psalm 95:1-8

Sandy just read that to me randomnly, just as I was finishing this post. Irony? I think not.....

"And if by grace, then it is no longer by works"...

SPOTS I"LL BE LURKING AROUND FOR THE next week (If you are in any of them, lets meet up!)

Thank God for Phil Lesh, music, and for all of you beautiful people!

Mom and Dad, if you read this, I can't thank you enough for helping me out with the travel logistics. If I ever am a parent, I can only try to do as good as you
